Minority Weekends

When I was in High School I worked a summer job in an office. The office was so busy they offered double-pay to come in on the weekends. I was getting into Shabbos and I said I don't work on Saturdays, but I'd be happy to come in on Sundays.

Nope. 'Weekends' meant Saturday. OK, I got it. I'm a minority in a Christian culture.

A lot of things happened since then. I moved to Israel for a number of years. It had its pluses and minuses, but Saturday was the different day, whether a person appreciated the religious dimension of the Shabbat or not.

Now, a large organization I deal with offers associates regular two-hour seminars on a certain software. The union pressured for the seminars to be offered on..... you got it, weekends. But, 'weekends' means Saturday. The two trial dates for 'weekend' seminars are both Saturdays. I'm not complaining, as the course is offered at many other times on weekdays during the year. But, it's interesting to note, that even in post-silent revolution Quebec, the two days of the weekend are not equal.
